3 Abingdon Gap Shelter south to U.S. 421 (Low Gap)
4 U.S. 421 south for about two miles
5 From Grindstaff Monument south to Turkey Pen Gap especially under the power line crossing
6 Turkey Pen Gap to Vandeventer Shelter, heavy between the Gap and the Wilderness Boundary
7 From Vandeventer Shelter south to within 1.5 miles of Watauga Dam Road
8 Shook Branch south, around the lake, for about a mile to a point where the trail enters the woods near the F.S. gate
9 Heading north, as the trail leaves Laurel Fork Gorge and starts to climb Pond Mountain along the railroad grade
11 At the very beginning of this section heading south, in the field where the A frame house used to be.  Also at the Canute Place.
12 At the vista about 2 miles south of Bitter End, between the road crossing near Buck Mountain Church and Isaacs Cemetery.  Also between the county road and 19E at Bear Branch.  The fields in Bishop Hollow and just to the north of it can have weeds if they are not being pastured.

14 Most of this section from Bradley Gap to Grassy Ridge.
15 The Carvers Gap parking lot area along the fence.  Near the summit of Roan Mountain and from Hughes Gap trail north for about a mile.
17 The section between Iron Mountain Gap and Weedy Gap.  In wet seasons/years the area between Iron Mountain Gap and the Clyde Smith Shelter has weeds.
18 The area north and south of Beauty Spot.
