Appalachian
Trail Car Shuttles
Last Revised:
March 08, 2007
If you are planning to hike the TEHCC section of the A.T., you
may wish to use a car shuttling service, for several reasons:
- The section of the A.T. maintained by TEHCC is crossed by many roads.
Unfortunately, there have been a few incidences of vandalism involving vehicles left at
road crossings. Therefore, you may not want to leave your car overnight at a road
crossing.
- Long-distance hikers may want to arrange for a car shuttle at the beginning or end of
their hike, or to get to the nearest grocery store, post office, etc. when they reach a
road crossing.
Warning: do not leave your vehicle overnight at the
intersection of U.S. 19E and Bear Branch Road, in Carter County, Tennessee.
Many vehicles left there overnight have been vandalized !!!
You can arrange with these services to drop you off or
pick you up at a road crossing, in their vehicle or perhaps in your own vehicle.
The following may be able to supply information on shuttle services:
- Mahoney's, Johnson City, Tenn., (423) 282-8889.
- Nolichucky Outpost Information and Reservations, Erwin, Tennessee, (800) 232-7238. A word of
warning; we've had a report that these people may not be reliable.
Also, you can check out our guide service page.
