Our section of the Appalachian Trail is
managed and maintained by a cooperative effort of the U.S. Forest Service,
the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, and the Tennessee Eastman Hiking and
Canoeing Club.
We participate in or help sponsor the
following specific activities:
- Recreational Hiking and Paddling Trips
- Educational Presentations of the Appalachian Trail to Youth and Civic Groups
- Camping Equipment Rental (Club Members Only)
- Fall and Winter Dinner Meetings - special slide programs on
adventure travel and activities; club awards for hiking, paddling, and
trail maintenance
- Regular Maintenance of the Appalachian Trail
- Special Appalachian Trail Work Outings
- Canoe School for Beginning Paddlers
- River Cleanups
- Appalachian Trail Conservancy/USFS Konnarock Summer Work Crew
- Appalachian Trail Days and "Hard
Core" in Damascus, Virginia
- Appalachian Trail Maintainers Dinner Meeting - safety issues and maintenance objectives
- Club Organized First Aid and
Chainsaw Certification Courses
- Northeast Tennessee Public Lands Day
- Special Community Service Projects -- construction and maintenance of local
hiking trails.
- Cosponsor with Carolina Mountain Club and Smoky Mountain Hiking Club, "South Beyond 6000", which honors those who hike 40 of the
highest Peaks in the Eastern U.S. (North Carolina and Tennessee)
