Participation and leadership are critical to TEHCC's success. The
TEHCC awards program is intended to recognize members who provide outstanding
contributions to the Club. The following information, extracted from our constitution, describes our awards program:
"Section 2 – The Hiker of the Year
Award, Paddler of the Year Award, Maintainer of the Year Award, and the Stan Murray Award
may be given annually to an outstanding Club member. The awardee is selected by the
Steering Committee in recognition of significant contribution to the Club and hiking in
general, in keeping with the goals and tradition of the Club, and in accordance with the
guidelines stated below:
- All awards, except the Stan Murray Award, are based on points
and hours of participation; and can be given to the same person in successive years.
- Every attempt should be made by the Steering Committee to
prevent the award from becoming a popularity contest. If no one meets the criteria
of the Steering Committee for the award, the award does not have to be given.
- Officers and Steering Committee members are eligible for the
awards.
- If an award is given, normally only one person will receive the
award. If there is a tie in points or hours (except the Stan Murray award), the
steering committee may decide to make two awards to those involved in the tie.
- The selection of the awardee should be made by the Winter Dinner
Meeting.
- Other awards presented to those that achieve certain hiking
goals include: South Beyond 6000 and finishing the A.T."

The following tables list award recipients, since the inception of each award.
Awards are usually presented at the first Dinner Meeting of the following year.
In 2005, the Maintainer of the Year Award was renamed to the Frank
Oglesby Maintainer of the Year Award, to honor the memory of Frank Oglesby,
the founder and long-time member of TEHCC.

In 2001, the Appalachian Trail Park Office of the National Park Service
establish Golden and Silver Service Awards to recognize fifty and twenty five
years of active volunteer service on the Appalachian Trail. The new awards
are intended to be presented at each Appalachian Trail Conservancy biennial
meeting and recognize a continuing volunteer commitment to the A.T. on lands
administered by the National Park Service and USDA Forest Service. TEHCC
awardees are listed below:
